Wreck Logs - Reefs - Runnel Stone

A reef lying off of Porthcurnow. Marked by a large Buoy with brass bell. The runnel stone used to break the surface until a massive collision took the top clean off! The wreck of the City of Westminster bears testament to this today. There are many wrecks around the runnel…most notable of which are the City of Westminster and the Moorview, lying in around 30-40 meters, but there are also a couple more to the Northeast in 20 meters.

The runnel stone hosts a huge variety of marine life…it is encrusted with many species of anemone and soft corals such as the Devonshire cup coral and dead men’s fingers. It is not unusual to come across huge shoals of Skad encircling the rock and to be spied on by the inquisitive members of the Wrasse family. Lots of interesting swim-through's and gullies make for a superb dive.
